HOMEPAGE

The Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) is a voluntary consumer organisation consisting of over 100 000 individuals, no corporate bodies such as pub companies or breweries can join. It is a not for profit limited company, run by an elected national executive who are unpaid but which employs a small number of professional staff.

It promotes real ale in a number of ways:

  • by raising awareness of the variety of beers, as well as ciders and perries;
  • by campaigning to improve quality and choice of beers, ciders and perries;
  • by fighting to save pubs and breweries threatened with closure;
  • by trying to ensure pub standards are raised and pub traditions preserved.

South East Sussex CAMRA is a local branch of the Campaign for Real Ale. Members enjoying discovering, drinking and campaigning for real beer, cider and perry. The branch covers an area from the Kent border in the east, to a line roughly running from south of Tunbridge Wells to the Cuckmere Valley in the west. It nominates 31 pubs for inclusion in the Good Beer Guide each year.

As a member you can:

  • enjoy a choice of social activities, mainly held in pubs;
  • have a say in awards made to pubs and beers which excel;
  • help out at the Eastbourne beer festival in October each year and other festivals around the county and country, or gain entrance to these at a reduced price;
  • help select pubs for the Good Beer Guide;
  • attend the national members’ weekend and annual conference to socialize, drink and/or vote and speak.

Ultimately, if you wish, you can stand for election to office at local, regional or national level.

Members receive discounts CAMRA books, including the Good Beer Guide, and other products. You will receive CAMRA’s national What's Brewing newspaper, on-line or delivered through the post.

Has a beer you enjoy been discontinued? Has a pub near you been closed or spoilt? Has a local brewery been closed, taken over or its beers been ruined? Are you concerned about the quality or price of a pint? If you can answer 'yes' to any or all of these questions then you will benefit by becoming a member of CAMRA. We look forward to welcoming you!
